My Review

A specialist kidnap group, deadly professional and so good they haven't hit the police radar, until now. It is simple, pay up, don't contact the cops and get your kid back & until now that is what has happened. The opening chapter pulls us into a kidnapping and a chance to see just how serious these kidnappers are.

So the book circulates between three main story lines, the cop investigating, the lawyer who represents all manners of bad guys, she is really good at what she does and her clients are some of the shadiest individuals. Lastly, the bad guys and we see how they operate, we meet some real sick individuals, twisted, depraved and controlling.

I think the thing with this one is we are introduced to the players real quick and yet Kernick manages to shock and pull out the rug from under you a few times. Fast paced and enough to keep you hooked and intrigued. I am not always a huge fan of multicharacter points of view because it can be distracting, disjointed and takes away from the story, not so in this one. You are with a character and glued to what is happening and happy to jump to the next and see what they are up to!

It has been a wee while since I read Kernick and this reminded me how much I do enjoy the twisted creepos world he creates and sucks you into, 4/5 for me this time. Today is publication day so grab your copy now.

My Review

We open with Olivia Sutherland, in the courtroom, defendant, accused of attempted murder on her husband. She is staring at the jury, she is staring at her husband, she cannot believe this is happening to her. Flip five years later, she is out, she wants nothing more than to see the wean who is a teenager now and clear her name because she knows she is innocent, her husband set her up, by why?

We have a wee insight into jail life with Olivia and then we are outside and free with her. I found some of her actions/choices so infuriating, I get it - I don't think many of us would be thinking straight and acting right but man she is so lucky, the chances she took!

The chapters flip between Olivia (wife), Dominic (husband) and Dani (personal trainer to Olivia and servicing officer) and as we hear from each we learn a little more as the story unravels of who the key players are, what they have done and what their focus is.

The book starts off sharp and pretty much keeps up the pace/focus of the reader. I wanted to know how and why, what is coming next and how Olivia is going to get through this without getting her butt thrown back to jail.

I do enjoy Taylor's books I think I have read them all now, I look forward to the next 4/5 for me this time.

My Review

The Holden family have disappeared, the house in a state as if the family only just left. The police are investigating, things may not be as they seem and are the family? Concern ramps up when a blood stained message is found in the teenagers room, what happened to the Holden's and where are they now?

The timeline flips around the disappearance, days, hours, weeks before and with each jump we get a different glimpse of the people they are. What was happening in their lives, interactions, actions and secrets. Present day takes us into the investigation, DC Saul and colleagues and the missing wife Piper's best friend Julianne. Pretty much all of these characters have some kind of secret to hide, aren't exactly the nicest of people, seriously some of them are super weird!

It took me a little bit to settle to and get my head around it, a fair few characters, storylines and as I said timelines surrounding the missing family. I have a lot going on at home so my concentration is all over the place and hooking into a book just now is a struggle. I was pulled in pretty quickly (as I do with Cummins books) because I am a total nosey reader. I want to know what went down, how, why and when you get a book that teases out the information and reveals it secrets layer by layer you absolutely get invested. The characters aren't nice people, some of the behaviours are indeed shocking *gasp* which makes you reluctant to put it down. I would like to see some of the characters again because what on earth could X Y Z do next, this may just be wishful thinking as I don't think Cummins does series but they say a good author leaves the reader wanting more, 4/5 for me this time.
