My Review

Book 12 of the Tempe Brennan series, I will admit I haven't read all twelve nor in order I don't think in any actual sequence however I do try with the ones I have got. Temperance is a Forensic Anthropologist and whilst there is murder and investigations going on I love learning stuff from books and the examinations she does with the authors expertise brings a story and education. So when I see the books I check if I have read them if not I buy and add to the pile and just go from there. We know her and Lieutenant Ryan have a history and the book does briefly cover why they aren't together but there is no denying the attraction is there. So inbetween that we have the case(s) and bones being investigated, a killer on the loose and a newbie in the workplace who clearly wants to make a name for herself, I did not like her from the off.

The book goes between work place dynamics, the back and forth between Tempe/Andrew, we spend a wee bit of time with her ex hubby's family which I liked but not sure it added anything to the plot. This book looks at a few cases, work politics, bitchy colleagues and your usual murder/bones examination and some seriously shady behaviours by some.

I liked it I didn't love it, I have more of this series on my tbrm and will read them and continue to buy them as I come across them, 3/5 for me.

My review

When Tempe was younger her childhood friend and sister went missing & no matter how much Tempe asked questions she got no answers. Fast forward present day, bones of a young girl has been found, older bones with strange lesions, could this be Tempe's old friend, just coincidence? It certainly drags up memories and questions from Tempe's past.

This is book 10, I have gaps I think in the series as I would pick them up and read as I found them (sorry I know this makes people twitchy) but I find you can follow it fine. Tempe's relationship features in this one well her lover or ex lover, officer Andrew Ryan (he is a detective) well I suppose you can say it is complicated. So the two themes go along side, the bones investigation/Tempe's past and the ongoing issues with Andrew. They work together on a case so it is complicated, is it over, things are getting in the way, attraction - I suppose it I had read them more recently or in order I may be a bit more invested,

I always find these books interesting because of the anthropological aspect, I love when you learn things from books or spark interest to look into things more yourself. It isn't my fave of the series but still interesting read, 3.5/5 this time.

My review

This book has been on my shelves for years so it was really nice to reacquaint with Tempe, Doctor Temperance Brennan, bone doctor /forensic anthropologist. A nine year old little girl is killed when rival biker gangs target each other and she is caught in the crossfire. Tempe helps the team investigate and get answers on some bones linked with one of the gangs. Along with this her young nephew has come to town and has a keen interest in motorbikes but he wouldn't get caught up with the wrong people surely. Trying to do her job, look out for her family and then her relationship with her boyfriend takes an unexpected surprise.

I love the way you sink into some books, Tempe is very thorough in her job so we learn a wee bit of something with each body she examines. The book has lots going on, her and the cop rubbing the wrong way, her family life/relationships and then the unexpected turn with the boyfriend.

Rival gangs are dangerous territory and with Tempe being on the news that adds another level of danger for her. The book is busy, paced and keeps you hooked because there is so much going on at each turn. I have a fair few of these on the tbrm and although I have been known to read out of sequence but I think the next few are in order. Looking forward to picking the next one up, 4/5 for me this time.
