The woman’s bright blonde hair floats in the breeze. She almost looks like she could be resting on the soft green grass. But her brown eyes stare unblinking up at the sky, and the final cut across her mouth is dark with blood. Her words silenced forever…

Late one evening, as the final church bell rings out, Sandra Deakin’s cold and lifeless body is found in the overgrown graveyard with multiple stab wounds. When Detective Kim Stone rushes to the scene, the violence of the attack convinces her that this murder was deeply personal. What could have caused such hate?

As the team dig into Sandra’s life, they discover she believed she could communicate with the dead. Was that why she was targeted? The last people to see her alive were a group of women who had a session with her the night before she was killed, and as Kim and her team pay them a visit, they soon learn each of the women is lying about why they wanted Sandra’s help…

Kim realises she must dig deep and open her mind to every avenue if she’s going to stand a chance at solving this case. And when she learns that Sandra was banned from the church grounds and had been receiving death threats too, she’s ever more certain that Sandra’s gifts are at the heart of everything.

But just when she thinks she’s found a lead, the broken body of a nineteen-year-old boy is found outside a call centre – a single slash across his mouth just like Sandra’s. Kim knows they are now racing against time to understand what triggered these attacks, and to stop a twisted killer.

But they might be too late. Just as Kim sits down at a local psychic show she discovers something that makes her blood run cold. Both Sandra and the call centre were named in an article about frauds. And this show stars the next name on the list. She looks around the audience with a feeling of utter dread, certain the killer is among them…

My Review

If you haven't read the previous ooks in the series, seriously where have you been! This is book 18 and whilst yes this can be read as a standalone I would absolutely read the previous ones because they are such a great series and you know the backstory for the characters. Anyways back to the book/review, this one features two main themes guys, psychics and stalking!

The book opens with the murder of a psychic and there kicks off the investigation by Stone's team. As the book goes on we quickly find that someone has a murderous hate for psychics and this is just the beginning. We have a separate "case but not a case" of a dead homeless man whose identity is unknown and if you know Stone you know the minimal Stone likes is for the dead to at least have their name so as a side thread that is going on. Whilst investigating the psychic a stalker comes up in their investigation and Stacey finds some disturbing info, could this be our killer?

I love the banter/camaraderie with the team especially Stone and Bryant, they are so different and compliment each other as does the team to be fair. The research as always is bang on and woven in to go smoothly and seamlessly with the story. Like I am a fan of psychics and one of the characters in the book debunks them and goes into detail on how they manage to do what they do, I find that so fascinating. The stalker stuff, I am shouting RED FLAG RED FLAG, why why why to X character, pulled right into the story as always. Despite being eighteen books deep Marsons manages (in my opinion) to keep you hooked and invested in the characters, even when you get annoyed you are absolutely invested and questioning why X character is doing XYZ behaviour(s).

I think this book is setting up some bits for the next book and as always we are always waiting with bated breath. Also the pathologist guy, whilst he doesn't make huge appearances in the books I do enjoy their character and their *relationship with Stone. Here is to the next one 4/5 for me this time.

My Review

DC Maggie Jamieson and squad are back! Lucy is just about to open her doors for domestic abuse victims when she finds one literally on her doorstep. Hurt, scared, unable to communicate Lucy takes her in and calls the cops. Jamieson has a murder case on her hands, a young man found dead and a curious marking to his face. Before long another body turns up, some shocking news hits the team and things really begin to kick off.

If you haven't read the previous books I would urge you to do so as you get more of a feel for the characters and players. You could pick this up as a standalone though but you are missing out, this is book four of the series.

Murder investigation, shocks, violence, death, attacks and we get to see Maggie in a more personal light as she tries to juggle her personal life, sexuality, dating and of course the job. A busy wee book with lots going on to keep the reader hooked and on their toes. A few different storylines that whilst you may make a connection or two will for the majority keep your interest peeked and you guessing, 4/5 for me this time.

A freak accident in rural Wyoming leads the Sheriff's Department to arrest a man for a possible double homicide, but further investigations suggest a much more horrifying discovery - a serial killer who has been kidnapping, torturing and mutilating victims all over the United States for at least twenty-five years. The suspect claims he is a pawn in a huge labyrinth of lies and deception - can he be believed?

The case is immediately handed over to the FBI, but this time they're forced to ask for outside help. Ex-criminal behaviour psychologist and lead Detective with the Ultra Violent Crime Unit of the LAPD, Robert Hunter, is asked to run a series of interviews with the apprehended man. These interviews begin to reveal terrifying secrets that no one could've foreseen, including the real identity of a killer so elusive that no one, not even the FBI, had any idea he existed ... until now.

My Review

So I am playing catchup with the Hunter books and now reading them in order, this is book six in the series. Absolutely can read as a standalone but the previous are so good I would advise going back and reading them first. When an accident uncovers a brutal serial killer the police didn't even know was operating, the FBI have their hands full. The suspect claims he is innocent, a guy played in a bigger game and he will only talk to one person, Robert Hunter. As Hunter does what he does best he gets the guy to talk, a guy who isn't a stranger to Hunter and a can of worms, heartache and shocking discoveries will rock the FBI, smash open the case and Hunter.

So this book is a bit different from the others, the killer is a shocking controlled methodical sicko! We see the book go back and forth from present day to the past and we learn more about Hunter and his person life, things that have impacted on who he is now and how he interacts with others.

Absolutely a page turner, brutal, shocking and one of the most controlled and cunning bad guys, echoes of Hannibal Lector for me. I felt so much for Hunter this book, no idea what the future Carter books will hold but I have a few on my tbrm waiting, 4.5/5 for me this time.

Say You're Sorry by Karen Rose Blog Tour

Today I am closing the blog tour for "Say You're Sorry" by author Karen Rose, tour arranged by Anne at Random Things Tours, thank you for having me on.

A wee bit about the author:

Karen lives in Florida with her family, their cat, Bella, and two dogs, Loki and Freya. When she's not writing, she enjoys reading, and her new hobby - knitting.

QUICKFIRE ROUND WITH KAREN ROSE

Give us three adjectives to best describe your new novel?
Fast-paced, Satisfying, Bittersweet

What are the three most important character traits of your protagonist?
• Daisy – Feisty, Smart, Compassionate
• Gideon – Loyal, Tenacious Able to accept and build on his partner’s strengths

Where is the novel set?
Sacramento, CA and Mount Shasta, CA

What were the last three things you Googled in the name of “research”?
• Tree of Life
• Abandoned mines in California
• Coroner’s office: morgue tour policy

Who is your biggest influence as a writer?
Probably Carolyn Keene (all of them!), authors of the Nancy Drew stories. They were my favorite detective stories and I cut my mystery-writing teeth reading and trying to figure out whodunit.

What is your most socially unacceptable writing habit?
LOL, this isn’t a fair question! Okay, the most socially unacceptable habit that I’m willing to admit to: I choose a song and play it on infinite loop until it becomes background sound. In past books it was Barry Manilow’s When October Comes or Josh Groban’s Evermore or Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. For SAY YOU’RE SORRY, it was a medley of Hallelujah, including versions by K.D. Lang, Lindsey Stirling, and Jeff Buckley. I apologize to my husband, my dog, and any neighbors who were adversely affected. (My husband still gets a twitch at certain songs, LOL.)

Have you ever killed anyone off from real life in one of your novels?
Hmmmm. Well, the right answer is that “any resemblance to persons alive or dead is purely coincidental.” But the truth is: Yes. There are a few old bosses, the kid who spit on me when I was seven years old, and a doctor or two who ticked me off. I look at it as therapy I don’t have to pay for.

What was your favourite book as a child?
Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott.

What is your favourite writing snack?
M&Ms. But I have attempted to limit this to an every-100-pages reward. Somehow veggies and hummus just aren’t the same. Boo.

You can find Karen on Twitter and Facebook

Praise for KAREN ROSE:
'Intense, complex and unforgettable' - James Patterson 'A high-octane thrill ride' - Lisa Jackson 'Fast and furious' - Sun

KAREN ROSE was introduced to suspense and horror at the tender age of eight when she accidentally read Poe's The Pit and The Pendulum and was afraid to go to sleep for years. She now enjoys writing books that make other people afraid to go to sleep.

My review

Special Agent Gideon Reynolds is a professional, he keeps himself to himself, never having quite got over his past he finds relationships hard. When a woman is attacked and it links back to his past he is forced to face things he thought long buried in the past. Daisy Dawson is the lady Reynolds finds himself having to protect, after a maniac trys to abduct her they soon realise this isn't a random attack and Daisy may not be out of the woods just yet!

Ooooh if you have read Rose before you KNOW what to expect, a bad guy who is usually terrifying this one if many steps ahead of the law. He is well versed in his craft and knows how to capture them, hold them, kill them and dispose of them. He has never had any trouble until he encounters Daisy, what follows is a game of cat and mouse putting everyone at risk, can Daisy stay safe?

We hear from the killer as well as following Daisy, agent Reynolds and some of the police force involved in the investigation. The killer makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, he is smart, organised, ruthless., brutal and shows no mercy for those at the hands of his predilections. In among this Daisy and Reynolds are being ushered together by circumstances and family who would rather both took an involvement in the other sex. Neither are focused on that with so much at stake however they cannot deny a pull toward each other....

The book is fast paced and you would think at 500 plus pages you may taper off but the action keeps going and I found myself picking up the book every chance I got. I have read Rose plenty of times and whilst some crime books try and fail at a romance angle Rose pulls it off, in my opinion, every time. It doesn't detract from the story and sometimes when you are least likely looking for love you can't help but fall into it!

The book explores some really dark themed, violence, murder, abuse, cults, romance, relationships, love, sex, police procedural, investigation and that is just for starters. Rose is an author who has honed her craft and manages to keep it fresh despite having written so many books now. I always look forward to a new release and this one was no different , a start to a new series although I am sure I recognized some characters from previous books. I really need to look back at the books I have missed and try read them in order, great books, 4.5/5 for me this time!
